- "Carbon emissions of different fuels" by Forest Research states that natural gas combustion produces approximately 56 kg CO₂ per GJ, whereas hard coal produces approximately 101 kg CO₂ per GJ. This aligns with the claim that natural gas combustion produces approximately 45% less CO₂ emissions compared to coal combustion. Carbon emissions of different fuels - Forest Research
- The combustion of fuel releases both energy and carbon dioxide. The amount of carbon dioxide released by the production of one unit of power depends on the type of fuel that is burned. For example, since coal has a higher carbon content than gas, more carbon dioxide emissions result from burning one tonne of coal to generate a unit of power than from one tonne of gas. 2023 UK greenhouse gas emissions, provisional figures page 18
